So Im getting my gf to set up a 55gallon tank soon that I am giving to her. While just browsing at petsmart yesterday she saw this guy and well, love at first site. I told her to write down the name so i could research it.

And from my research iv learned that, the zebra is just a made up name for pet stores and its actually a Synodontis nigriventris

From this I gather it will be fine living in a 71-80 degree tank, not a picky eater, and needs a place to hide. And I am assuming 7-8" in length max.

Is there anything special I should need for this fish while I am caring for it while we get her tank going in a week or so? I have a 18gal hex unheated, so my guess is low 70's at the warmest with baby goldfish in it. I also have a 180gal heated to 76-77degrees, but with quiet a few monsters in there, ie 12+ comet, 12"+pleco, 10"+oranda with assorted smaller fish of balas and pangasius catfish.

NOW my plan was to just hang the 2gal hex Into the 180gal and have a foutain pump just keep pumping water into the 2gal hex and overflow into the 180 thus keeping the water clean at all times.

I am acclimating him right now in a tupperware container and adding little bits of water every 5-10min.

Now of course the pics, listed 20$ on sale for 10$

Yes, this is a decorus.

Well I put him in the 2gal hex hanging under water except 1" for the over flow. Threw some sand in the tank and a plant. Fountain pump is pumping water in keeping a over flow. Tmw I am going to buy a 50watt heater, heat the 18gal hex and house him for a week or 2 until the 55gal is completely setup and running. Thanks for the info on the id guys.

Could be a hybrid. Have been seeing alot of those in LFS lately. Marked as a Zebra Syno. at reputable shops also.

Ya at petmart it was labled as hybrid.

Hes doing well in his 2gal hex so far, eats SUPER FAST and like a pig.

Typical Syno. feeding behavior. Mine go nuts when they smell food.

Last update just for the heck of it. Bought a 50watt heater and threw him in the 18gal hex for the next 2 weeks until the 55gal is up, heated, seeded, and running.

Iv learned he doesnt like light, and its best to feed him when all the lights are off and I am going to bed.
