Mile High in Northern AZ, baby!~
New addition to the duce duce 5

Thanks to "gtgg'' for making it possible...

I now have 2 AquaClear 50's on top of ATI#5 sponge filters and this beautiful piece of German technology...

Filtration is for a breeding pair of Jags and my first brood with them...

Nice! I have a 2080 and despite the hate it seems to get on here I think it's great!
The only thing that one could possible hate about them....is the fact they don't have one ;)...Admittedly the cost is prohibitive for some, but if you plan on being in this hobby for a while, the cost will seem cheap when you factor in the longevity and the cost of electricity to run...a scant 30 watts for this kind of filtration? it's a no brainer ♠ IMO...

I think the prefilter in the top tray is simply genius, lift it out and set it in the supplied tray to carry to the sink, lift out the screen and you are right there at the polishing pad...No need to remove anymore than necessary to clean...Perfect!

My 2180 has a 500w built in heater, it was able to raise the temp of 225g, 1 degree F per hour from 70f to 82f...the differential from Canister to Tank, is 2 degrees.

Just the feel of the unit, the quality of materials used and the o-rings on everything that has water pass through it. All top notch stuff!...Mine came with the deluxe grey clear o-ringed suction and return plumbing...the ones with the cleanouts and air breaks...

So far great stuff, I started this thread to see how this filter is doing in the future...only TIME will tell...

i hate it too because i dont have one :(

from what i have read, its a winner besides 3 things that is debatable.
1) flow rate
2) mechanical filtration
3) cost

1) flow rate
2) mechanical filtration
3) cost
However, the points debatable in favor are;
1) lower flow rate creates more dwell time in the media
2)Easily serviced sponge pre-filter and polishing pad (top tray)
3)30watts for filtration over the period of many years offsets cost

4) when you get old and crippled up like me, a single tray to service for a pair of cichlids makes more sense...:D :D :D and of course,
5) knowing great people like yourself, to make it all possible...Thanks again Brother!!...;)

I hate them ! Because they won't fit in my stand :( Nice filter zenzzo! BMW of filters for sure. Dual intake right ?

Also aqua clear 50 you mean the filter or the powerhead ? Is this for the deuce deuce five?

you sure?? they are actually just 23" tall with hose clearance...yup dual intake single return and a built in 500watt heater...
Yeah AC50 powerheads on the ATI sponges

and yup for the 225g it has become the home of 2 breeding Jags and 100's upon 100's of fry...

I traded my 90g w/d w/ scrubbies and DART for the eheim 2180 and media pack w extra pads...;)

Yup im sure :( I built my stand to so there are no excuses. Now I gotta build another one for an FX5 or a 2180. You gotta get us a pic update man sounds awesome. Bet there is swarms of the little jags !

www.kensfish.com was the cheapest place online.
With the 2180 media kit (efiMech/EfisubstratePRO/Blue foam/White floss),
1l of TORF pellets and 2 Pad packs,
shipped,
it was like $606.00

Hey I was reading up on what "Diatoms" really are...How cool is that??
Which vortex do you have and how often do you run it? Can it be used just occasionally?

thats the same thing i was thinking. 500w built in heater, better built and will last longer

so the only thing i can come up with is 2 fx5 for more mechanical filtration and more flow rate to eliminate powerheads. that would give it more circulation but more effort and time spent cleaning the canister. its a pain in the ass to clean the fx5!!!
