My water looked a lil foggy so I washed some Zeolite from Petco and put it in my sock sump. I did this around 7pm last night and this morn around 4am I seen the water is super white (not clear).

I got scared and took out the sock of crystal zeolites.

My Q is will my fish be ok? They didnt seem to be having a bad reaction to it and also what is a better way to prevent the water from doing so next time (I washed it out for about 5min straight rinsing and turning all the zeolite in the sump sock)?

Thanks

I tried that stuff before and got the same result,I had a pair of albino oscars and it did not seem to bother them but I did almost a complete water change right away. That was some years ago and I have'nt touched the stuff since.

Anybody??

Should I worry about my fish dying or it wont hurt them... just looks bad?

zeolites are basically inorganic crystals. if i was you, i would do a water change and then add some carbon to remove the discoloration.

sounds like a cheap dye was added to crystals that breaks down in water.

anyway, that's just my guess though.

dyes are added all the time to alot of things. you would'nt believe the color of certain common household items when the formula is raw from the lab....
