What type should I buy?

I want to use some as a chemical filter on the outlet of my filter to remove any toxins that the bacteria can't eat up. I don't want to use it as an ammonia remover.

zeolite is supper aggressive
maybe you should look moar into aquarium chemistry
before you try to alter it

Use a good water conditioner and treat the water before adding to the tank and you should have to worry about chemical filtration. You cannot make the zeolite not remove ammonia from water because it will.

Read up on the nitrogen cycle and how it works in an aquarium.

Agreed, you don't need chemical media in a tank. I recently began using Purigen to see how I liked it and it's done a very good job at polishing my water--the tank was already over filtered and quite clear, but Purigen pushed it over the top and is now crystal clear.
