Hi, I have almost zero knowledge of planted aquariums and i want a plant of some type that I can just throw into my tank and expect it to grow with nothing more than and open window next to the tank for light. Am I crazy or is there something out there?

java moss and anuibias are your best bet for least effort . . . only thing easier than those is algae . . .

Java fern and Anubias nana. Both of those will grow with very little to no light.

If the tank doesn't have algae they will do fine. Otherwise they'll probably get algae on them.

Java moss, Java fern, but I would go with Anubias, they look like they would be harder to take care of (but are not).

I would have to agree with java fern. I've had the stuff in a little 3 gallon tank with practically no lighting, and it just grows and produces plantlets from the roots and leaves.
