my zig eel has been chasing around my senegal bichir are they usually aggressive or is it just this ones personality. also are tire track eel less aggressive if zigs usually show aggression?
Thanks
I've got a armored bichir, lesser spotted eel, a peacock eel, and a tire track eel. The tire track doesn't bother any one and he only comes out to swim around at night otherwise he's always hiding in something and keeping to himself.
feeding aggression is normal in spiney eels.. often times they are not fed often enough 'nore enough of their foods. frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp though usually readily taken need to be eaten in copious amounts to really be nutritionally adequete. Many people also mix them up with true eels who normally are fed 2-3 times a week in captivity.. Spiney's are Fish.
Tire tracks ime are more aggressive. the one I just sold use to eat small fish among other things, and bossed my ornate poly around that was about the same length but much thicker compared.
Mixing juvinile spineys may also work for awhile.. but rarely will it work long-term.. as the aggression you see in juvies is nothing compared to sub-adult/adult behavior. Con-specific aggression is very much an issue with spiney eels. Zig zags generally being one of the few species who actually seem to enjoy being in groups, in appropriate amounts of water.
OP are you 100% sure your spiney is a Zig zag?.. the behavior you describe is very uncommon for this species ime. There are always exceptions to the rule though.
hmmm, zig zags usually hide a lot, mines does, and my tire track is always active even during the day, and becomes really aggressive when eating, should be the other way around with your case
