im new to the hobby i was looking for fish that are always active and compatable with my Zig Zag in my 30 gallon tank

They do well in community tanks with larger tetras and other non-aggressive/semi-aggressive tank-mates. Generally Spineys are docile fish that do fine with anything thats not aggressive and going to pick on it.. or to small to fit into their mouths. Their of course are exceptiosn to the rule.. but they aren't common. I generally avoid to many bottom dwellers with my spineys as they are active bottom-dwellers and can become territorial over hideing spots.. so if other bottom feeders are in the tank make sure their are plenty of hideing spots for everyone. The only Big no-no ime.. is plecostomus.. ime the only species that do well with them are of the Panque sub-species as these are almost strictly herbevorous.. and require their own husbandry practice quandries but make very good tank-mates.
