hey everyone, its been a while and it sucks its under these conditions but, my Dat's got some zit-looking things on it's head and around its gills. The surrounding scales are raised, but not standing straight up. Theres even a little white "head" on each of the raised sections.

I'm thinkin parasite, (not sure if its anchorworm because the "heads" are maybe 1/32" above the scales) but i just have no clue what these things are. I've got 1 other Dat and 3 clown loaches in the tank, none of which are showing any signs of these zits, or any other symptoms for that matter.

I'll try and get some photos up if it'll get out from behind some driftwood.

Thanks for all your help!

ok so i didnt read the sticky that your supposed to read.

they are in a 20 gal tank (upgrade coming soon) that tests consistantly at under 20 ppm Nitrate, 0 Nitrite, 0 Ammonia, pH around 6.6-7.0 ( it was below 6.0 for a while until i added aragonite to the filter)

There is a piece of driftwood thats over 3 years old and silk plants that about a year old.

the Dats are 5"-6", the clowns are ~5", theres a dwarf bristlenose pleco in i forgot thats about 3".

Its been over a year since ive tried to add any fish, since then there have been no other incidences of illness.

Ive got the tank at 76 degrees F, thats were my fish seem happiest.

Theres an Ehiem 2215 on the tank, and an additional air pump.

I do water changes about every 2 weeks, vacuming the sand everytime, the last one was last week.

The sick Dat had been eating nothing but frozen food and f.d. krill, so i have trying to get it to eat pellets for about 2 months. I'm trying with the big (7.5 mm) New Life Spectrum and garlic.

I started treating the tank about three days ago with Formalin, just to try and get a jump on whatever this is if its a parasite.

Photos will be helpful. Please do post them as soon as you can get them.

For now, I can only assume that what your datnoids may have are possibly bacterial cysts wherein the white blood cells that tried to eliminate the foreign agents die and encased in the cysts in the process. It may not be the case though if it seems to occur only on the head and gills. Is it really only on the head and gills? Bacterial infections happen in many forms, usually as zits, white patches and frayed fins.

I don't think that is a case of anchorworms. Anchorworms are not picky with where they latch themselves on, mostly hitting the fins and fin bases instead. Have you noticed white circular shapes with red/pink lesions in the middle? That's a sign of parasitic infection usually. Besides that, anchorworms bury their heads under the epidermis and remain motionless.
