For the last 2 weeks or so I noticed that one of my Cichlids got a zit on his lower jaw. You can see in the photos on the bottom right hand side of his face. At first it was fairly tiny and I didn't think nothing of it. I thought with a some water changes and some salt, the zit would go away. However, within the last couple of days it has got worse and it looks to be more of a red sore w/ the bump still there. My water parameters are perfect and I've never really had any health issues w/ my fishes. I wanted to post this on the health issues forum but I thought I'd get more responses here.

Have any of ever seen this before? If so, any idea what it is and how to eliminate it? I've raised the temp of my tank, treated w/ some salt and melafix...stuff I had laying around and thought might help. But I doubt it may not be strong enough and it may not go away with just that. Please help.

Don't know what or why but one of my geos had the same thing on its side and it eventually went away, however six months later its back. Since its doesn't seem to affect her behavior or coloration I just call her a tramp and tell the other fish she has herpes.

Sounds like a parasite to me.
Thanks for your input. That's what I'm also thinking it is.

Thanks for your inputs. Yea I'm hoping to be able to completely kill it so that it doesn't come back. Too bad its on his lower jaw and not somewhere else in his body less visible.

Anybody else have inputs?

I would quarantine that fish in case that "pimple" turns into a lesion. It could be an anchor worm OR, Aeromonas or Pseudomonas bacteria disorder. ALL are contagious.
(Wash your hands after they have been in the water. Seriously.)
Bring the quarantine tank up to at least 80ºand medicate with MelaFix,or you could use Formalin or Malachite Green.
Jus my 2¢.

Thanks for your inputs. I've been doing just standard remedy of high temp/salt/melafix and so far today it looks a little better. I'll continue to monitor progress. I for sure don't want this to be a permanent mark and affect his beauty since I'm banking on this fish to look amazing later!

i would definitely treat the entire tank with jungle parasite clear, something like this that is recurring needs more than just salt and melafix

I was going to use some JPC as my next step just in case it got worse. But I totally get that I should use it to kill hopefully any remnants in my main tank. I'll do that today. Thanks!
