my sting ray has little bumps on him that look like zitts. anyone know what this is or what i should treat him with? on a few of them there are little white strans sticking out of it, i am already treating him with perma fix for fungus on his tail.
sounds to me like anchor worms. im not sure what meds are good with sting rays yet because im new to them but the disease sounds like anchor worms because of the white strings but the spots also sound like could be ich. pics?
is salt good or bad to treat stingrays with?? anyone know? i know most cichlids and piranhas you add salt and raise the temp to help heal and treat some diseases but i dont know if this works with rays because they dont have scales and its mainly scale fishes that salt is better for from what i know. anyone know if salt is ok for rays or not? and if so do you raise the temp also?
They are almost certainly anchor worms, the description is classic for them, there are several species and they are salt resistant. Here is a pic. and one more of a really bad infestation.
They also are more tolerant of temperature changes than most fish are.
I do not know what meds are safe to use against them on rays, for fish like koi you would use clout or anchors away.
They can also be physically removed with forceps by a firm, straight, outward pull, swab the wound with iodine or hydrogen peroxide.
