thinking of swapping my midas for 3x 5 inch zonatus, i know there aggressive but do you think it mite work, tank is 180 gal thinking that i would keep the best one of the bunch with 10 silver dollers

Zonatus are crazy. At 5 inches is where they start getting really crazy. I'd say that 3 Zonatus at 5 inches are gonna kill each other until they get down to 1 pretty quick. But, once you get down to 1 left, I think it'd be OK in a 180 by itself with some dithers.

Let's hope the one that lasts is the best looking one. I have 4 from the same source, and I'm starting to notice that some are more blue than others. I have one that's pretty drab, very little blue, and it's the biggest meanest one of the group.

yea i have heard that about zonatus, mite put a couple of dividers in the tank and give them a few weeks to settle then pick the best 1 and sell the other 2

Only way to know is to try. I had a put a few growouts (3inches) in a 150 with a 9 to 10 inch pearsei and 10 to 12 in polypterus. The little zo's were maniacs. Shredded the polys and nipped all the trailers off of the pearsei.

I did just as ragin cajun said and ended up with 1. Oddly though the one by himself hasnt been nearly as aggressive as when it was kept in a group. Currently sharing a tank with a small poly and l200 pleco. As of yet no issues

Not saying it wont work just was my experience

just picked them up, first fish i have had that where fighting through the bags., I ll give it a month or so and pick the best and sell the other two then give it ago with the dollers

Hhahahaja yeah they are beautiful s.o.b's put mine in the comm tank today for less than an hour to move his tank and he beat the pants off my heterospilus.

Good luck with them high strung fish

I grew one up to 11-12 inches in a 1-1.5 years. Bigger he got, the meaner he got. I finally ended up having to re-home him.

And that was in a 540 Gallon tank.

I don't know if that was just him,or if that's the species. But I'll know in about 6-8 months

well i know the biggest of the 3 is a female, laid eggs in the shop the next biggest has been side slapping her so hopeing its a male never seen a fish so out going so quick with in 20 min of being in the tank it was scrounging for food and was very close to eating out my fingers.
