Why did my zonatus breed and then the male attacked the female?

How big is the space that they are in? How far along are the fry? I have a male Devil that does the same thing to his female. Once the fry start swimming he would make sure that she stayed away.

Is this his first spawn?

Two main reasons for this, especially with pairs that have only spawned once or twice. First reason would be that some new dad's lose interest quickly and want to start over already. The other reason is the opposite side of the spectrum is that they can be so protective about their fry that they will not even want the female around them.

They are in a 150 gal. By themselves. The fry have been eaten by him and he's just crazy now
