what are you going to do when the snake has explosive diahrea? go with some aspen, cypress or just some regular old newspaper or papertowels.

I use coco fiber for my corn, works great, aspen for my boa, also great.Aspen doesnt look super nice but it looks better than news paper, holds humidity, and easy to spot clean so you dont have to change it all the time for a snake.

granted I've never kept snakes, but I do have some geckos on this stuff and can't really see them going for it. When this stuff dries it's like crumbly concrete.

this substrate was made for herps more like leos and uro's
i would just go with what everyone else suggested like aspen

Nothing better than paper towels.
true and false
false in the way that it looks worse when its dirty :grinno:
but ya paper towels are the best
even helps keep in moisture
pretty easy to clean
my beardie on paper towels right now
daily maintnance for em tho

I don't use paper towels for the simple reason that animals encounter nothing like it in the wild. They don't encounter aspen shavings or any other stuff like that either, but at least they can use it in the same ways as wild substrates. This applies to all animals. Everything in their environment is a tool to survive, substrate is no exception. So even though my hognose doesnt burrow in carefresh in the wild, she still makes a heck of a tunnel in it. I think she or any other animal would be bored out of its mind with such a sterile environment. And even though its a pain, I'm sure you can spare that extra 30 seconds to clean poop off of something.
