I recently acquired a temensis and he has a bumb on his chin. Ive seen this in fish at the stores but thought it was only on agro fish who rammed the glass all the time. His is a lot smaller. What is this and what do i do to treat?

just a callous. If you can't stand the look of it, you can try clipping it off with nail clippers, but you'd better make sure the fish is held down well so you don't clip his mouth off in the process.
If you keep him in a very spacious tank, he won't run into the glass so much and it will eventually go away on its own.

Oh, but you dont know. His jaw is like that because he hits the glass or decor durring feeding and when stressed out. This means your tank is to small.
This guy is a joke. Hes asking a question like this then in the same post says hes going to build a big tank.

150g is small when it comes to cichla.
Yeah you might get away with it. But you will have an unhealthy fish. Is that fair??

i think the poster was joking... but seriously he has only been in the tank since last friday and i started noticing it on sunday.. when the lights have been on he has been pretty calm or actually very calm.. He has eaten prepared foods and doesnt get spooked by me or the other fish to whree he would run into the glass and I have spent a lot of hours watching him just since Friday so unless at night when the lights are out he is slamming into the glass for some reason I do not see why it would happen...... it would be nice to just get advice and not have people talk ish to me..

He obviously DOESNT know whats going on.
He even has the nerve to suggest that I dont know anything... let alone anything about cichla. THAT is an ignorant comment.
Your FOOL of a fishkeeper asked what the "bump" was on the cichlas jaw. This is an irritation brought on by rough abuse to the area. Usually happens by netting the fish and then introducing it to a new tank. It also will come on when the fish rams the glass/decor durring feeding or times of stressful jolting.
permanent and usually is if its sevier.
It is quite common in specimens housed in small tanks. oh and a 150 IS a small tank, ESPECIALLY FOR ANY SPECIES OF CICHLA.

Feeding does not automatically mean "fine" or "happy".
Alot of fat people eat when they are depressed.
also, I DID ASK. and i got a ****ty remark from your unknowledgable fishkeeper friend, there was no reason for his reply.
Also, DONT AUTOMATICALLY RULE OUT TANK SIZE.
YOU THINK its ok, but its NOT. Sure, his bump was probably from the netting.. but if it does not go away with in a couple weeks then its probably from hitting the glass.
