flowerhorns are not a specie, they are a hybrid of various cichlid species. they originally were bred in southern asia, but are now bred in many other parts of the world as well

Well..this are considered to be 'man-made' fishes...and some people in the Europe call them 'Frankenfish' as in the context of Frankenstein...
Load of rubbish normally trimac x synspilus or synspilus x labiatus or whatever. pretty fish but no good to the serious cichlid hobbyist (when Synspilum, Paratilapia, Umbriferus etc are available why have these..??) and tehy are killing the genetic pool     . Rant over..
Having said that, they do look amazing.

Flowerhorns are a cross between a synspilum and a trimaculatum. They are bred in bangkok. They even have fish market where they get high prices for their flowerhorns. It's called flowerhorn row.

As far as I've known, not on Syns, Trimac, but Red Devil also. My understanding was that you have to have 3 sets of genes, Not to mention I've never seen just a 2 gene hybrid come out that well. Grant it only a handful of a whole batch look that good but....

I think the most expensive flowerhorn for sale that I remember was 15g's of cold cash.....don't remember where or if that's right, but yo, think about how many homies fell for that kinda roll.....
