Hi guy's

Some of you may remember me opening a thread asking for some of your thoughts on a fishing forum, well we "the staff" have given it some thought and at some point in the future we are goin to open a fishing forum for all your fishing related topics.

anyway this thread is for all your topics now until we get one set up, i have noticed more and more fishing threads and posts recently so i thought it would be wise to keep them all together in one sticky thread.

so let the posting begin !!!

caught the bass in NH, used a 5-6in bluegill and a small bleeding bait hook. no weights no nothin, its stealthier. i was killin em that day, i caught a ton of good bass. i had him on a stringer so i could take pics and let him go but a snapper got to him first. The black tip was released too, i drug him out fir a pic and then revived him and sent him on his way, used a pen/meatrod and half a trout for bait. caught while camping in the everglades.

Ok has to stick my bit it From Esssex :naughty:

Essex Record Brace - 50lb 1oz and 48½lb in 24 hours!
A big-fish complex that’s bound to be of great interest to UK anglers lies at an undisclosed location in Essex. The exclusive venue has two lakes and boasts an incredible stock of big carp to upper-fifties including this very elusive new fifty which was taken from the larger of the two lakes, known as the Church Lake.

The awesome looking mirror weighed in at 50lb 1 oz for long-time carper, Mark Rush, from Basildon, Essex, and came during an action-packed 48 hour period which saw him land other fish of 18lb, 33lb, 42lb and 48½lb. Fishing alongside Dave Levy, Mark became the first angler to catch the big mirror at over 50lb and the fits to tempt that particular fish to the bank since Roger ‘Dodge’ Hicks landed it at just over 40lb some five years back – a catch that featured on the front cover of Carp Talk.
The 30-year-old plumber told Carp Talk: ‘I turned up at the four-acre water on the Friday and, after a look around, found some carp milling about in some weed. I set up and put all three rods out all with 15mm hookbaits and big PVA bags of 12mm Nashbait’s Bling free offerings. At about 5 o’clock the next morning I had a 33lb mirror then at midday I received another take. Straight away the carp took a lot of line and after 10 minutes I took to the boat with Dave and got over the carp. As it came up through the weed I couldn’t believe the size of it! It fought hard right until it was netted and still wanted to go when we eventually had it in the net. I don’t think I’ve ever caught such an angry fish! Dave told me this mirror hadn’t been out for five years which made the capture even better for me, and it beat my personal best by 6lb (the amphibian from Manor Farm)!

‘I was more than happy with the thirty from earlier and then the big mirror, but that night I had another two takes and landed a 42lb followed an hour later by a stunning 48½ mirror. I was sat on my bedchair the next morning in total amazement! I don’t think I’ll ever better this session again in my angling life. It was a carp angler’s dream come true! Thanks to the owner and to Dave for making it happen.’

Spot on ;) BUT! They have no bait runner. This is not a problem my first set of Daiwa reels didn’t. They do a bait runner conversion for them it £20 is I think. This is a good thing to treat your self to later. But they are a baby version of mine and would do you for every water. People often say to me where you fishing the sea because of the size of my reels but remember you can fish small and large water (France I could be fishing 200 Yrs out taking baits out by boat.) but you can only fish small waters with small reels.

Pike eat then I have a frog and a mouse lure that go over the surface. And one of the likes I fish with Wells cats up to 50 lb has no baby ducks on it in the summer. There was a story from the owner that a woman used to come down to the lake and feed the duck every day in the same spot she phoned him up in tears saying something huge came out of the deep and ate a duck as she was feeding it.

Good question for me at extream range carp fishing 180 yards + and my lure fishing I use braid (Berkley Whiplash Pro) I recommend braid over every other line fore lure fishing as no stretch you feal every nock and when you strike its instant. For all my other fishing I use Krystonite Super Mono
Premium Grade Super Copolymer with Flurocarbon Coating.
High performance hybrid copolymer monofilament with added flurocarbon coating. Low diameter combined with extra suppleness gurantees longer smoother cast.
Advances fromulation gives high knot strength, low visibility and excellent abrasion resistance. Strength to diameter ratio far superior to many other lines on sale.

If you fish with Rapala X-raps you may improve your chances of landing bigger fish by replacing its hooks with stronger/better hooks. I replace them with Eagle Claw #4 trebles in red. Its original hooks tends to bend and give way to big fish.

A catch on a modified x-rap tied to a light ugly stik with 15# mono.

I don't fish anymore, but I used to fly fish and I still tie flys for the local kids and help with casting. I caught some fairly large trout, but a couple huge ones once in wyoming. If you have to make a choice, make your own lures. I can tie flies, carve lures, and cast wigglers. beat that. And, I make my own nets.

I have a friend that I go fishing with he is a lot older than me according to Dan im an old git at 35 so I don’t know what that makes him:naughty: . But he ties his own fly’s. I love them if you can get some Pictures of your lures etc would love to see them. I do the bulk of my lure fishing in the winter and there is something deeply satisfying about catching a fish on a lifeless peace of mettle or wood and I should imagine its all the more satisfying that you made it your self.

I put this on last winter my son caught that 5lb chub on one of those twin tail rubber lures and I have had pike to about 12lb on them. Those rubber lures work really well the fish bite them hard:naughty:

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18961

Yep dead baits work really well in the UK when I have fished with other anglers abroad they all use live or lures. I have caught my best pike on dead bait’s the idea is the bigger fish are females and become lazy with size so picking up a dead bait is an easy meal.

Went fishing this morning on my local cannal, and caught 2 Pikes (esox lucius), i was well pleased with myself.

I caught them on a Perch looking plastic lure, the first one i caught was about 5lb and the second one i had out was about 3lb so they were only small by UK standards but still non the less a pleasurable catch,

I could have had 4 of the little buggers but they got spooked when the saw me crouched at the bank side, the first one i missed i could see it chasing my lure i actually thought i had caught a snag and it was trailing behind but on further inspection i could clearly see it was a pike and not a bad looking sized one either hard to say what i would estimate it's weight at because it was still in the water but i'd have said it "would" have been the biggest if i had caught it,

and the second one i missed as i was reeling back my lureseemed to have done a side dive and i could see all the fishes under side it also failed to hook .... gutted !!! :(

But unfortunatly i have no picture to prove, as my phone was dead so i decided to leave it at home to charge up, but i plan to go this weekend and " I WILL BE TAKING MY PHONE" all i have is a few teeth marks in my rubber lure (plastic lure)

Oh and thanks stotty for that lure first time i used it, it's a lucky lure ;)

I quote for an American angler
""Carp fight. Not the wild, leaping fight of a bass or trout, but the deep-down, pulsing, and bulldozer kind of a fight that comes only from determined brute”

Carp fishing well its huge in Europe I have fished for them in France and Spain as well as it bring the bulk of my UK fishing.

We use custom bates but Sweat corn works well and as stated bread is tops give it a go if you want some really boring technical stuff let me know and I will show you some off the rigs we use but I warn you for a trash fish us Europeans take it very seriously

As its show some fish here are some I have caught from England and France.

That was a 42lb fish. It was caught at over 200 yards it took over 20 min to land including snaging me up on a island and then we took to a boat it unsnaged its self then towed me and my mate round in circles for 5 min so yes they fight quite well.;)

Caught this one this morning while resting from a dipping expedition to catch feeders for my monsters. A female that's a bit bigger than 16 inch.

Landed it on medium heavy Sturdy Stik with 30# green mono using a Mirrolure TT sinking twitchbait. I use this combination to catch PB quickly. I usually get the PB at my feet within 5 minutes from the first cast.

It's pictured with my 16 inch by 16 inch dip net for collecting feeders.

Sorry about the picture quality had to snap them out of this months Advanced Carp Fishing magazine. This is the editor with the British record surface caught carp it came in at 61.4 oz I think that’s about 28 Kilos (I think correct me if I’m wrong like lb’s) It was caught on a plastic imitation dog biscuit socked in flavouring he got it feeding on dog biscuits of the top then sat there patently to get this bad boy. That’s a big fish for any were in the world and that is a huge fish in the UK well done you the man Mark.

I would go as far as say Monster Fish:naughty:

Bad luck my young apprentice ;) just remember “That’s why it is call fishing not catching” :D depending on the day lure fishing can be hit and miss some days you cant bring the thing in quick enough other days you cant wind it slow enough pike can be funny things.

Went fishing today what a disaster. Thrashed the water to a foam with my favourite lures then thrashed it a bit more with the ones you never use except in emergencies that you know wont catch if thing are good:nilly: . Even my favoured dead baits let me down my local river has had an American invasion. Every bait bought in had a least one of these bad boys on it:( . Well Dan it’s down to me and you to put this right on the 26th;) .

 thanks mate although i think rex is a tossa.... i can't stand him anymore, He's just :nilly: :nilly: :nilly: :screwy: :screwy: :screwy: CRAZY! and says stupid sh*t

The golden perch/ yeallow belly(first pic) was caught using a live blueclaw crayfish, i had just baited up when my dad yelled out a big school of fish were swimming under the boat away from us, so i cast this live cray out the back.....let it sink for a few seconds then wound it in like a lure and BOOM!!! fell for it haha

I can only imagine what it looked like being dragged back in, i rigged it to drop to the bottom and crawl around not cast/retreive...... was probably doin loops on the way back in, but hey... it worked.

That will never happen:ROFL:

Well anyways
My brother and I Hit the Leafy Basin today. I started off the day slow rolling a spinnerbait and that didnt work. So I changed over to my new bait. Booyah Jig, Blue and Black Skirt with a Gary Yamamoto Black and Blue Kreature. I tossed that for the rest of the day. Hooked up on a 2.5lb smallie but he jumped and the hook came flying out. Didnt get anything for a little while. We went to the rocks and the first 2 spots I didnt get anything. Went down alittle more where we uselly get fish and I did.

stotty can you eat those prawn? they look mighty yummy

you can eat them yes it's the American red claw crayfish which was imported in europe, this particular crayfish is much larger than our native black crayfish, the amewrican redclaw wich was introduced to our native waters is also wiping out our native species.

I’m so missing my fishing :nilly: haven't been since my Cray fish disaster Zorro nice catches mate and Messiner yes as Dan said yes they are edible taste a bit like lobster/Prawn. I’m of fishing with Dan on the 26 of this month as long as it does not freeze up big hard water but if we hit the jack pot could have something nice but then again if it stays this milled might stick one out for my old fave the carp, I hate it when work gets in the way of my hobbies.:irked:

If you fish with Rapala X-raps you may improve your chances of landing bigger fish by replacing its hooks with stronger/better hooks. I replace them with Eagle Claw #4 trebles in red. Its original hooks tends to bend and give way to big fish.

A catch on a modified x-rap tied to a light ugly stik with 15# mono.

anybody seen those lures made to look like mice and baby ducks? what fish eats mice and baby ducks?!?
never heard of baby ducks except huge catsfish. But mice are eaten by everything but panfish. ive seen a trout eat a 3 inch mouse fly.
