I have every dat except AT
i only have 2 baby indo's
the most i paid is about 90USD for an NGT

lol i dont think i qualify for a medal yet.

I have 2 baby indo's...(Getting 10-15 more friday, but they DEF dont count yet)

My biggest Dat is a 5 Inch Thinbar...

I use to have an AT.

Currently I have 17 Indos, 15 which are the 1 inchers. My largest is my 8-9" Indo.

In May Im picking up two pulchers from a member in Florida.

My goal is turn my 125 into a dat show tank with a couple Pulchers, my best few Indos, an NGT and an NTT, my 6" clown loaches, my fei feng that I cant bring myself to get rid of and hopefully one day a giant fire eel. Yes it will be overstocked, but it already is with my current stock that is including a ray and water is fine cause luckily I get free water in my apt so I do water changes just to kill time!

No medals yet. Now if Li will stop hoarding the Pulchers and give the rest of us a shot at a few it would be nice!!!

Well could I get a medal for the best deals? Ive gotten 15 baby Indos for less the $40!

ive been switching from mustang to pos after my last mustang got stollen im in a pos phase right now it may snow so it time to have some fun...i almost lost mine to i got cuaght racing but i went to court and got points,i also got points for trespasing by motor vehichle cuasing terf damadge ie. dougnuts on a front lawn

I'm down to 12 datnoids: 5 widebars (12", 9", 8", 6", 5"), 4 NGTs (10", 8", 6", 5"), 2 Indos (11" and 9"), and 1 thinbar (7"). I've never paid more than $150 for a datnoid, usually far less. I prefer to buy them small and raise them up.

You did the same thing I'm doing with lungfishes... I'm curious as to why you are doing this (Amassing such a large collection) I wonder if you're working on setting up a breeding program / conservation effort?
THAT is the reason for my exorbitant lungfish collection. Wondering if we're along the same lines here...

I got some farm land and wanted to setup some breeding ponds. Thats why I grabed somany indos and thinbars. Dats are hard to come by in hawaii and are very expensive. A indo dat that is half an inch goes for $15.99 A 5" thinbar is $130. A one inch indo is $40. Its ridiculous. I just always had a thing for perches. They are symmetricaly pleasing to me and have great personality. I also collect large ammounts of archers, nandus, terapon jarbuas, and climbing perches

Are you working with the piebald/leucistic Anabas? They are a personal favorite of mine. Have not seen any for many years. The LFS has 2 gray ones. I used to own those two, but returned them. It's the yellow / pink ones that really strike my fancy. Your breeding project sounds awesome. So your aim is to get rich off dats? :)

No, just crazy about them and perches! That an I want people down here to be able to enjoy them without having to wait for them to be available and to pay less for them. Not sure about the anabas...they are tan with bright orange fins and a black spot on the back of the body.

Awesome! The anabas here are just a solid gray. I love 'em, but they were getting too aggressive to keep in a community with a lungfish. And only having two didn't warrant setting up a new aquarium devoted to Anabas (If I found more, I would do just that!) The tan/orange ones sound awesome!

So as not to derail... I think everyone should be able to get what fish (dats) they want at reasonable prices . Good on you!

Nice collection! I am assuming your AT is in full fresh since hes with an aro? he looks like hes doing great.did you have to acclimate him to fresh or did you raise him that way? all the ones ive seen are in brackish conditions and im alittle scared to try to acclimate him to fresh. I know Dats are hard to get on the islands, including Guam. My brother just boughts some here in japan and imported them to guam because they nevver stock them there. Again very nice collection and thanks for sharing.

Thanks. The Silver is in not full fresh but not full brackish...? Haha! I add rock salt after cleaning but not to the point to make it brackish. He used to be in full fresh but I noticed that he looked a little bumed. Once I added some rock salt he started swimming around more and started to recover his shine.

Cool, thanks! ive check several LFS's looking for AT's, they were fairly common several months ago but the whole brackish thing kept me from getting any. But now im on a mission to get one to complete the collection. lol.

The one in my avatar? Nah not mine...i really wish it was, it is owned by a famous LFS here in Japan called Akano. I actually went there today (on my mission for AT's) and saw the fish in person, it is amazing!! measures in at over 45cm (18+ inches) i couldnt afford him so i picked up a 5-6 inch thinbar instead..lol..

Thats why i stopped growing out indos. I dont like the faded, blotchy color
when they get big. Stable patterns are hard to find.

Lol..yea definitely TopDat, not top fish though, my Oscar still has Alpha status even though hes smaller. Which i dont mind because he keeps all the Dats inline including the NGT. just finished building another sump and doing tank maintenence and its 3am here, ill post pics up tomorrow though.

I feel so puny compared to some of you guys. All I have is four STs. 1-7 1/2", 1-7", 1-4 1/2", 1-4". I had a great indo that I raised from 2" to 6" with stable colors and a great pattern but he apparently didn't like my adding the STs and went belly up within 2 weeks of adding them to his tank.:cry:

the dat in the first pic had symetrical bars it was the best indo i have ever seen, both sides were perfect.
the second dat had perfect bars on the side you can see and the other side had one shorter bar.

Since he has been in the 600 he has been a lot more stable.

Always stable in the evenings. He knows its feeding time.

Still havent found an AT but here are 3 dats i picked up in my quest for a silver..

I call the middle one a "Bingo-marker dat" lol, he is currently my biggest at about 13" or so.

He was actually pretty cheap for his size, at 13" he was only 4000yen (about 35 USD) the little widebar was actually more expensive at about 5500yen. Imperfect markings on dats usually drops there price here.

Very nice Dats. I like all 3! I was only able to get 6 from a guy who said I could have 15. But they all look great, and i put them all into a 55 G just for those 6 Baby indo's.:naughty: :naughty: Feeding heavily on bloodworms, and they like the occasional feeder. Heres a few pics i took over my break from school.

Some are my new baby Indo's that kind of look like ST's, but we all know they are not. THey have Nice bars though huh. Also Here are my 2 NTT's I have, 1 was from Fish Room Plus.. I love em both!

What you guys think?

:headbang2 2 of them are my NTT, 6 of them are baby Indos, and i got 5 more what i believe to be baby silvers. The babies are in a growout tank(55G) so they can grow faster. They all love bloodworms.

I should have some pictures by next week.

Still looking for a 3" ST, or a 2.5" NGT, for my collection. Im in NH if u can help!:headbang2

oh while im posting here, picked up another Dat today, got him for dirt cheap since he was jet black (couldnt even ID him, i went by the slope of the forehead and assumed possibly a D. Pulcher). in the store and had been that way for a week or so. as soon as i acclimated him into the tank his bars clarified and he turned out to be a beatiful Y-bar. Can't positively ID him so ill need help when i get a pic up later.

Thanks! that was my assumption, but when it comes to Dat ID i like to have several opinions. Even the LFS couldnt ID him because his bars were concealed as he was pure black.

I think Pulchers also have a kind of stumpy look. the back is higher and the rear end looks kind of short too. Not the best way to ID but it makes sense in my mind!

I need to see a picture of a 21 " CT...Tape MEasurer needed for this Gold..

Do you want to see the one reference in particular or will any picture of a 20+ inch do? ive got links to pics of a few very large Dats.

Here you go! ive seen these guys in person and they are HUGE. the website says the biggest one is over 55cm.

Any luck finding an ST yet?

No ive only had one offer, and the Dat was a CT in my opinion and for 250$ .. i want a DEFINITE ST, if im paying like 200+$. I m just going to wait until i see a 3" or so ST. So basically its a one in a million i'll get one...

Don't give up just yet, ive heard that Widebars are seasonal here in japan, and they usually pop up around springtime as babies.(that info is from one of the LFS i go too.) so i wonder if they will pop out in the states after they do here. just like when these guys popped up here in japan...
