yes she does appear to be missing some scales now that I got a good look??? I'm hanging on to the zonatus I got for now and moving on to some festea grow outs for now. If you want to order another batch of zonatus you could probably talk me into splitn it with ya

You just noticed that now? It looks like more than just scales that are missing, you might want to reconsider keeping that fish in with the others.

What evidence - other than Don telling you - that the parents of the fish are wild?

I'd assume that whatever possible genetic sport that resulted in this mutation, that it would be recessive. And wouldn't show up unless both parents hold this recessive gene / mutation. That two random, wild fish would have this extremely unusual mutation seems to be pretty unlikely...

Siblings from pond / captive breeding, on the other hand...

Matt, although I don't disagree with your skepticism, you'd be surprised how small and densely populated some rivers, streams, ponds are. It is not too far of a stretch to think that you could collect siblings in the same locale.
My skepticism is also stemming from the source. Although I've heard don has some nice fish I've also heard inconsistent stories from customers throughout the years.

Call me cynical, but when I see a breeder that not only tends to breed & sell a lot of man made hybrids, but also purposely crosses CA species, and then sells the hybrid offspring, I have a difficult time accepting that this same seller played no part in creating these piebalds. I could be wrong, but it sure don't look good bro.

Took out almost all my fish now I'm going to breed my Fenestratus with a synispilum
