I had 2 Aimara. The bigger died around 1.5' the other is about 14". Neither were very fast growers.

Seems it's all dependent on where they sit in the tanks pecking order as to how well they eat. The 14"er is currently with ATF so they eat first, but competition of the Mbigua seems to help push him to be next in line.
Out of curiosity how long have you had him and what size did. You get him if you remember? And same for the one that passed unfortunately, time you had him and initial size?

On another note, I agree with kno4te lol.

Larger one was aquired at like 6-7" Had probably 4 years. Passed around 18"

Smaller one came in around the same 6-7" Probably 13-14 now, maybe here 2 years.

This is just guessing..... I should probably keep better notes.

Growth rate of aimara as well as any other fish depends on how it's kept and fed. Ask Vincent how fast his Aimara grows

Maybe they aren't real fond of Rays..... I've never kept them without, but many that do seem to report better rates.

I wonder if that's got something to do with it. My buddy had his with bullshit tetras and his went from 8" to 18" in less than a year. I've got some serious bruisers in my tank so competition is definitely going to be steep. I hope mine grows slow like yours.

I think it does. They definitely enjoy being the apex in the tank and I think it really bothers them when they're not.... My big one almost seemed like he'd rather off himself then be on the lower half of the totem pole.

I often wonder IF I had never added Lucy or the Lince IF I'd still have my big guy.....

Your lince has no effect on the aimara. It's the other way around. My aimara love the white belly of those catfish
