haha gonna be trial and error! i had neon tetras in my old 55g and those damn things were like popcorn. i hope those torpedo barbs arent jumpers cause at $20+ each, they arent cheap :nilly:
Sounds to me like they could have just as easily been named rocket barbs, I wouldn't risk them in an open tank. :P

Just a question is that surface agitation in the main tank i see ? I though a co2 injected tank had to be dead calm at the surface ? Im wondering cause i have 3 100 watt halides i could put on my tank if i end up switching to a submerged sump and pressurized co2 and i think being able to have that shimmery effect would be SO F****** AMAZING !

Anyway ill shut up now before i completely derail your thread.

Soooo purdy! Awesome job JC.

:jaw-dropp WOW man that looks absolutely unreal, BEAUTIFUL tank and your rams are stunning as well. From what i can see in the pictures, those moonlights really rock, how much extra are they on the catalinas?
thank you! not sure, but the fixture was $250. the website says moonlights can be ordered at an extra charge, but he just threw them in at no fee. it's nice being able to go to catalina aquarium in person and deal with the owner, he's a really nice guy :)

yeah we'll see. another member here (chohnzilla) has a pack of adults. he got them off a buddy that had them in an open top tank for over a year and never had one jumper. maybe i should start off with 1 or 2 and see what happens

no worries, derail away :) the thing you dont want is splashing, gurgling, agitation, etc. strong currents throghout the tank and at the surface are a good thing, as long as you dont have any splashing like you would with an HOB filter. you may lose a little co2, but i dont think it will be enough to make a huge impact. there's lots of discussion over the importance of surface currents on plantedtank.net

The sump setup is amazing! You wouldn't be up for making a How-To on noiseless sumping would you?

Sweet moonlights too. Most of them I've seen are pretty weak.

What kind of shrimp were you thinking of getting?
