thanks! i dont have a how-to on it, but its pretty simple. you need a Durso-style standpipe and a valve on the drain line. all you do is close down the valve until youre happy with the noise/gurgling level. this is essentially matching the overflow's capabilities with what the pump is actually pushing out. the result is no gurgling at all!Dreamsing;4308982;4308982 said:The sump setup is amazing! You wouldn't be up for making a How-To on noiseless sumping would you?
Sweet moonlights too. Most of them I've seen are pretty weak.
What kind of shrimp were you thinking of getting?
there are some risks with this though. with a partially closed valve (and essentially running your overflow at 100% capacity) you run the risk of having something clog inside the valve and flooding your tank. you need to have a good screening intake on the durso standpipe and/or an extra line that will drain the tank to the sump in the event the water level begins to rise. i'm still working this out. an emergency drain line is the best way to do this, but my tank is glass and i didnt want to drill myself to add another bulkhead. so im still looking out for options...
as for shrimp, not sure yet. probably some red cherries since i dont like spending a lot of money on shrimp. crystals are nice but way too much $$$$ for a tiny little shrimp!
