My first successful hybrid crayfish have been born, er rather... have just swam off the tail!
I had a male Procambarus cubensis and a female Procambarus alleni who mated, and the female berried a few days thereafter. She had a rather large tail full of eggs, but I wasn't entirely sure any of them would make it. I've had a few other hybrid attempts (in different species) that resulted in just infertile berries. Well, today mama has a big tail full of crawling babies, and about 20 of them are already off and exploring the tank!
Mama with most of her brood still on her tail.
One brave explorer riding on a ramshorn.
I can't wait to see which characteristics and traits they take on as adults. Though, I know I've created a very aggressive breed of crayfish... the little things are vicious already (then again, both parents are highly aggressive species lol).
