They are fine as singles. Mine was a single in a 150 with severums, geos, and acaras. He didn't mind.
Save yourself the headache with the psittacus. They are beautiful fish but they are belligerent when they hit adult size and they will get pushy with all your fish. I had to rehome a few of my favorite cichlids when my psittacus finally hit the 10 - 12" mark, and then he ate a few others. In the end, the only fish tough enough to deal with him were my lenticulata pikes and a breeding pair of Atabapo severums.
Eventually I plan to be down to 1 or a pair..1 will be fine if that's what I decide. Plenty of examples throughout the years on this forum I wanted to get a bunch of juvies and have 'pick of the litter' so to speak when they reached larger sizes. I trade in my others for food credit at the LFS.Would you think a threadfin would be okay in a 150 with a Senegal bichir, severum, and some dither fish or do they need to be in groups?
