Hey guys. So my new tank coming in this july. It’ll be 5x3x2 3/4 acrylic. Will 2x4 stand be able to hold the weight or it must be done with 2x6. Thanks in advance!

2x4's will be absolutely fine. Just be sure to follow the age old trusted "template" for stand builds, which basically means never assemble a stand where your screws are load bearing.

Joey, "king of DIY", probably has the best stand builds on you tube for guidance. Just punch in something like "king of DIY aquarium stand builds", and you'll be in the right area.

I would say with 2x4 you should have some posts in the middle of the 5' span, especially if your stand is taller(30"+) A sheet of 3/4" plywood secured to the top also goes a long way in strengthening your design imo. Heres a 24" tall 2x4 stand i built for a 60x36x18 tank awhile back....the tank was initially hoping to be 60x36x36 which is why i built it so sturdy.

Absolutely, i’ll be adding front to back support and as well as one or two post along the 5’ length. 3/4” plywood on top is a must!
