That has never been proven. Emperor cichlids have been know to die after breeding, Cichla don't.That 30" is aquarium size and the Temensis is the second largest cichlid. The largest is the emperor cichlid.
Yes, very possible. You can't sex until 5-8" when you can vent them. And I have seen pics of cichla temensis larger than 30" in aquariums, but have never seen a monoculus or ocellaris larger than 26", not even a wild caught one. And I'm pretty sure those babies you have of temensis were scotts rio tapajos that turned out to be cichla pinima.
