Anyone ever hear of a 700 gallon 4x8x3' tall made out of only 3/4 thick acrylic?

I'm under the impression 3/4 tops out at 30" & to hold 3' you need 1". My 750 is 3/4" @ 30" tall and it bows a bit. I'd be weary of 3/4" thick for 3' tall.

Interested in hearing other's opinions.......

Jim,

I think 30" tall is enough to give them a "guard fish"! Put something in there!!!!

Have you priced any other footprints? Say 10x4? Could you get more footprint for roughly the same as a height upgrade?

Interesting subject. I just recently placed a deposit for an 96x48x33" tank 1" all around. It was suppose to be 36" but I shopped around a few local builders and all stated 36" tall at that size should at least be 1.25"- 1.5". The cost of that thickness was too much so decided to play it safe and went with 33" tall instead of 30" recommended at 1" thick. Needed the height for some large basses.

I had a 96x36x30 3/4" all around with no issues.

Of course everyone has their own experience and opinions about this. Just my two cents based on responses received from builders

To answer your question. Go 30" if you can. Looks a lot nicer

As a man who just had a tank pop with water all over the floor I wouldn't be looking to buy anything that is borderline acrylic thickness but that's just me

Hey guys,
I'm replacing one of my old ray tanks and just wondering if it's worth about another $500 to go with a 600gal. Right now foot print is 8'x4'x2'. But ordering new so got another price to go 8'x4'x30". A $500 difference between the two. It's a BD ray tank so I know they will mature pretty big, they seem fine in the 24" high tank. What's everybody think?? Thanks, Jim
I'm not a huge fan of 30" tanks because you can reach in there. Considering that yours is already 4' deep, you're not going to be reaching the entire tank anyway, so I would say spend the dough and get the bigger tank for the larger water volume.

Possible, but it will most likely bow. I've seen 30" tall with 1/2" acrylic and it bowed terribly. It held for years, but definitely had an unsightly bow.

Yeah I'm thinking 600. My current tank is 1/2" and about 15 years old- kinda making me nervous. I did use corner stock acrylic on all seams before I reset back up thou.

My tank is 30" high and if your average height you can't reach the bottom without getting your armpit in the water (deodorant can't be good for fish) I'd stick with the 24" because rays are bottom dwellers anyways, yea yea they all swim up on the glass but in the end there on the bottom most of the time
