Seems a few people have used Wet Suit lately and have done well with it. they don't have issues with silicone either...

I think you would do well with Pond Coat. So, lets see here.... Is size a factor now that you are long longer talking about diy acrylic or glass? Cost does not significantly go up with size, for instance it costs about the same to make a 100gal plywood vs a 300 barring the cost of glass. With the types of fish you are looking to keep you may want to go as big as you are comfortable with. Let me know dimension and I'll see what I can do you help you get a parts list started.
I would have to talk to my boss. The place where went to put it now I dont think it could be any longer. It could be deeper. But 4' width is also just about as much as I think Ill get. I would love to have 5' but its not going to be able to fit in the classroom. And I agree - any way that I could increase size would be beneficial. We always want the largest enclosures for our animals.

Thanks so much for your help. Ill get back to you on a size thing as soon as I can get an email back from my boss!

Ive never built one. Id just brace it great. Or build the sides completely out out 2x4's with plywood on the inside like a few other tank's on here. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...600-gallon-plywood-tank-project-(3-Viewing)to dig up some links.
Id build like this.
This will give an idea of the difficulties with liquid rubber and what people have done..

Hmm. Does the pond liner stuff have the same issues as the liquid rubber when it comes to sealing in the glass pane?

What of this wetsuit stuff? I heard about it once before, but never really looked into that either. I am shying away from the liquid rubber just because it sounds like a headache to get your seal right.

Thanks for the help thus far guys.

I like the stand from that build, looks pretty easy, just all 2x4. I can do that no problem. Should I top it off with a piece of plywood?

What does everyone think about this: http://www.freeaquariumplans.com/bondo.htm

Not the most detailed, but at least gives me a general guideline of what I should be doing as I am, again, totally clueless. I should be able to adjust it fairly easily to my dimensions though I think.

Anyone else out there with fairly detailed plans? Might make it easier if I had a guideline of sorts.

I think you are making it more difficult in your head than it needs to be. There are hundreds of builds from this forum alone that you can follow.

I think I want to do pond amour. Sounds easy to get, fairly thick and durable. Plus it wont generate a smell that people will get mad about at the university and it also will be easier to instal the window with apparently. What do you all think?

Will there be issues with making a tank my dimensions 8x4x2 sturdy enough to allow the pond armor to stay waterproof? That is my only concern. This thing needs to be sturdy as a rock.

You can frame in support like a house wall.. there is a 1000 gallon build happening right now with framing. Pond Armor is a solid choice that has worked well for many people. since you can't increase the footprint you may want to like at going higher... might as well get the extra volume if you can, especially with the types of fish you plan on keeping.
