I just hooked up a xp3 last night to go along with my 40g sump. More is better right?!?!?!!

For the air bubbles I would check your lines from the return pump to the tank. If they aren't sealed they could suck in air. The water moving through the pipes/hoses can create a vacuum that draws in air but doesn't leak water.

No filter sock. No place to install one. Guess I'll add more water to the return tank so I don't have so much of a water fall. It's about a 3 inch fall right now.

Between chambers I added a filter sponge. We had some back media we ship computer parts in. Exact same stuff the air filter media is made of. It polishes the water like crazy. I just pull them out one a month and wash them out.

Thank you all for the input. I have added more water to the sump. I also saw that one of the return pumps intake was aimed directly at the "waterfall" and was sucking air like crazy. I moved the pump and it is much clearer. Like I said before..this sump has been a real eye opener for me.
