If your actually trying to do a shark lagoon thats great. I hope you do it cause I want to see those pictures

I know that someone on the pond forum has one with mangrove snappers and few other fish it's a sweet setup see if you can't find the thread and take a look. It can be done.

You could go and get a piece of LR the size of a car, plop it into the "pond" and that would be helpful for filtration... As for the amount of salt... I'm sure you could strike a deal with one of those salt companies and buy in bulk...
