LMAO, I guess that 7 yr old Xilo of Buddy's forgot to turn white.

Xilos would never have been classed as a seperate species if they were just white Cits. the isolation of the lake they are endemic to alonge with the nich they inhabit must have caused some genetic variation. Color not withstanding as I'm not aware and do not beleave all Xilo's are white (which is not true) as the only differance.

but here's a red devil. I know at least three easy differences to a Midas.

That is not the only criteria by which ichthyologist use to define a species. Which they also use to change species classifications every couple of years to keep the grant money flowing so who reall knows for sure.

They ARE all from the same family - the genus Amphilophus

And many of the crater lakes ARE isolated from one another. And even if in the same lake, does that make all fish the same? lol Seriously?

Are all blue mbuna in Lake Malawi the same species?

I don't get it the 2 endemic ( xil and sag) if not the 3 sp. (cit, xil, and sag) are different species because where they are found in the lake? I've been there before it's not a huge lake but it has different species that look similiar if not the same, are feet apart?

You guys dont know this : 1000+ years ago, some ppl wanted to grow more food so they took this fat breed and spread them around in different waters so they all have it multiplying around so they have a lot to eat. And I agree with time and their food + environment might help make small differences.

I think I heard RD and Midas live in the same water. ohhh but they are different..
