Angel fish at Fish Story

Never had any angels. Not my cup of tea. We were donated these just now, so I am curious enough to learn at least why many peers love them so much.

Three altum angels from Peru, rescues, 8" tall, from Matthew. He has the fish and frog license so can buy them wholesale, says got these at $60 ea, imported by Malone's monsters. After a week or so, they are beginning to take large general-formula NLS pellets for us.

If it helps, although angelfish aren't my cup of tea either, I can see why a lot of keepers like them so much. The appeal is the 'angel' shape+fins, hardiness of captive bred fish, and big variety of colors (wild type stripes, koi, albino, platinum, black, red devil, etc).

The Peruvian Altums are not pterphylum altum rather they are the wild caught scalare. None the less they are gorgeous. If they were collected from Rio Nanay, which most are they should develop spotting on their bodies that looks awesome if not already,
Wild angels are MUCH better to keep than the captive raised/bred. They show the cichlid instincts more and are slightly more aggressive but nothing bad.
Malones Monsters great businessman and an even better aquarium hobbyist. I've dealt with him a few times. I bought a payara from him and it ate same day.

could have bred them but wasn't interested in doing that.
Male/female pair that I added to a tank containing more rio nanay and tank raised koi angels. the wild angels hated the tank raised ones almost as if they knew they were fakes lol
I later came to find out on a discus forum that angel lovers dislike people who mix wild and tank raised together. they are like that with discus but even worse. lol if they'd went to my fish store now they'd have a heart attack. there are venezulan altums with marbled angels lol.
