confused, lost, and lonely
This is a picture of the current world record for sport caught barramundi, larger have been speared and net caught. this one was 85 lbs.
The barramundi (Lates calcifer) is NOT a cichlid, not the same family at all. Likethe nile and chinese perch it is a Centropomidae instead of a Cichlidae.

not really

mostly freshwater

but heres some other info i found on them

This catadromous species inhabits rivers and descends to estuaries and tidal flats to spawn. At the start of the monsoon, males migrate downriver to meet females, who lay very large numbers of eggs (multiple millions each). The adults do not guard the eggs or the fry, which require brackish water to develop.

they live in salt, fresh and brackish...

the ones in fresh are usually a brownish silver, the ones in salt are usually a high silver.

And yes they get HUGE, Depending on the food source they would reach 2 1/2ft quiet quickly and then slow down slightly.

I believe they are all born male and at around 50cm? they become female...

If you want to keep one for life, After 3-4yrs you'll need a pond
