By the Beach!
I caught this guy yesterday and I was curious if its a LMB? We caught a bunch of Spotted Bass as well and I don't know the difference if you can't see the spots. Oh he is now swimming free back in the lake. Thanks!

im gonna say its a spot. the mouth looks rather small to be a lmb and the eye is red.. both of those are characteristics of spotted bass. spotted bass, like every other black bass species except lmb have a jaw that does not extent beyond the rear of the eye. the red eye on this fish is a dead give-away that it is either a spotted or maybe a less common redeye bass. the lack of a red tail and that you caught it in a lake makes it a spotted bass in my opinion. the color pattern is a little off, but bass can change color based on water conditions ie: temperature, color, water chemistry. hope this helps.

there are three other species that exhibit a red eye: the suwannee, shoal, and guadalupe, but these species are found in very distinct river systems.
