wait, save, get the 110.

I actually run both Emps and ACs on my tanks at the same time, I like the flow rate of AC for polishing and Emps for the Bio-wheel for added amonia break down, also you can fill the backs of Emps with media-socks/bags,,,,,,,,,,,you don't have to use their cartridges.

I have to say the emp. 400.. Sorry guys. I ran multiple 55s with Emp. 400 and I never had any prob for over 5 years. The cart. over the course of 5 years may get a little pricey, but imo after the tank is set up for well over a year you don't have to be constantly changing out the carts. My water was always crystal and neevr had any mech. problems at all. Actually I still have them and I hope they will still run the same... I will find out pretty soon

I'm pretty happy with my AC70. It should be good to go on a 40g. Of course, I would rather wait for the cash for the AC110 but if time and money are against you, the AC70 will do just fine.

I would still go with an aquaclear and I've had emp and penquins.
Same here. ^

Go aquaclear, the sponges are easy to clean and rarely if ever need replacement.
