I have two Cobra spiny eels. They are very docile and awesome. Extremely rare.
Another spiny eel that is very personable that does not get too big is the orange spiny eel-18"
Another is the black spotted14'and white spotted 14". All are very personable. They all have small mouths so the fish that don't need to be huge to be with them.
The above are all soft slightly acid loving.
The Caecomastacembelus plagiostomus is a great spiny eel from Africa that needs harder water. It tops out at 12".It does need higher ph of 7.5 to 8.5 it very active and will hold its own with not too aggressive cichlids.
I have all of these in various tanks. these are all fairly rare to extremely rare. but they can be had.
