Pea puffers are your best bet. Get 4 or 5 of them and they will eat anything you put in. They will harass other fish to death, and probably eat them though.

Long term, no bichir would do well. If there's no room to upgrade don't consider it. You can buy them at tiny sizes though, so if you can upgrade they are wonderful possibilities for 4 months or so.

I was thinking like the ones I have- 2 years old (about) and 7 inches long, both males captive bred. Can't get em to grow! And I've never seen a bichir be scared.

The big boys I've seen though, the 12 inchers, not a chance :)

Edit: also I might have been thinking dimensions of a 30g for those even, 20g is small as **** lol

Have you thought about a pack of rams? They're pretty peaceful cichlids but beautiful looking.
