Can I keep Brachygobius Xanthozona in fresh water for life? I recently set up a ten gallon planted and I think their color contrast would go great with the plants. A number of sites I have read have said that they're one of the few bumblebee goby species that can tolerate fresh water.

Make sure you know what kind of bumblebee you have - some shops try to sell their bumblebees as B. xanthozona, and in some cases they are in fact other species of Brachygobius, which live in varying salinities.

B. xanthozona, as far as I know, can live in freshwater but normally does quite well in slightly brackish water too. Try them out in fresh water, but keep a close eye on them, and if they don't do so well, look into setting up a brackish tank for them.
