My guy.

-- Alleged Brachyplatystoma vaillantii ~8", from Wesley Wong of Rare Fish, Los Angeles, CA;
-- wild caught by Wes' fisherman in Suriname;
-- unsure of the species ID, might be something else;
-- prefers cheap catfish farm pellets to silversides, etc.
-- bosses over slobbering catfish and capapretum in the same tank - never a mark on him but often on these guys.

What are thoughts on the ID?

I have an alleged B. Vaillantii that looks almost identical to the one in the video as well. This is the reason I am so confused. These 'B. Vaillantii' have a much more compact body compared to my two new pickups. I give up with the ID thingy haha.

Yea, it's tough. With Wes we are sure at least these are indeed wild caught. So that makes it likely this is a genuine species, which is exciting.

Right, fugupuff fugupuff ?

If it was captive raised or some such, Wes has warned us of the existence of Brachie hybrids, which would make our ID efforts fruitless for the most part, never definitive short of a DIY at home DNA study.

Yes. Sarcasm.

Hey, look what the cats dragged in! :)

We are having a small identity crisis here, Bob! So IDK. I guess it is the default starting point - vaillantii, which is open for a grounded challenge, should anyone want to take a shot...

I'm unsure how the common name is spelled. PCF states Laulao FWIW http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=1178
