yeah it's usually best to stick to marine salt seeing as that's the kind of salt in brackish water, plus it's not just sodium chloride, there's potassium and magnesium chlorides as well. that's the big thing

Exactly. In real brackish environments, all of those different salts and trace elements are still there. Why wouldn't brackish animals need it?

look, IMO, you dont need to waste the money. I have kept barckish tanks for years & years and dont use sea salts. I have had very good out comes:mwave:

pupose is to give tyou the concentration of salt in sg(salt gravity). i dont know how it works but ill give you a tip set the temperature of the water befor e reading the hydro as water at different temperatures have different sg.

as soon as you look at it you will know how to use it ,my 4 year old daughter tests my warter after every warter change,it realy is childs play:)

but yerah hydrometers are pretty self-explanitory, refractometers are more accurate though

The Specific Gravity needle in the hydrometer is set to a particular boyancy. Because salt makes H2o more boyant, the more salt in the water, the higher the needle reads on the chart. It will point to the Specific gravity of the water or how much salt is actually in there
