So this thread is to document the development of my Salminus brasiliensis WC from Paraguay. Currently around 8-9".
Thanks to Chicxulub for the ID.
She is very active and an aggressive eater, splashing every time when hitting the pellets on the surface. Also eating thawed shrimp. Tank mates are some CA cichlids, had some aggression issues at first, she really hated one of my convict cichlid male, but they have sorted things out since.
Pics from 24/09/15 when I first got her.
Pic from 28/10/15
And latest pic I have from 08/11/15
As for the identification:
I posted an ID thread back in September which created a heated discussion on weather said fish is a Fransiscanus or a Brasiliensis. Judging by the head shape some thought Frankie while others said Brassie due to the collecting point (fransiscanus is endemic from the Rio San Francisco basin, Brazil).
Chixculub came to the conclusion that it is a S. Brasiliensis and presented academic information. Counting the horizontal scales between dorsal-fin origin and lateral line.
"Salminus brasiliensis- Scale counts: lateral line- 79-102. Horizontal between dorsal-fin origin and lateral line- 14-18. Facial bones, pelvic girdle and tail golden. Flanks occasionally golden.
Salminus franciscanus- Scale counts: lateral line- 68-82. Horizontal between dorsal-fin origin and lateral line- 11-14. Facial bones, pelvic girdle and tail golden. Flanks occasionally golden."
