Hey guys and gals,

So i have space under my 8' tank stand that looks a bit bare. I can fit about a 30x20x18 (about 46gal) with enough space to comfortably get my hands in and work in the tank.

Would a light heat up the underside of the 8' above it and risk temperature variance causing cracking?

Anyways, just thinkin' out loud and after opinions, suggestions, and help.

Would be a sand and live rock + a stone fish (Synanceia horrida).

What equipment will i need? Will i need a protein skimmer (can someone explain these to me?)

Am totally new to saltwater, so its all news to me. If i can keep live rock alive i'll go for the fish :p )

Cheers,
Troy.

This seems doable to me. For the set up you describe you won't need high powered light unless you decide to get macro algae or corals, so I don't see heat as an issue. A skimmer will help keep waste out of the tank before it breaks down in the nitrogen cycle, and I would recommend one as the stonefish will produce a good amount of waste. I would look at the aquaC remora for that size. Hope you go through with it, I'd like to see it.
