So i just built my DIY stand for my 40 acrylic. This thing is a monster, i have no doubt in my mind that it can withstand the weight...... HOWEVER, apparently i suck at cutting and the 3/4" plywood at the top isnt level, the stand itself is fairly level though.

This causes one of the corners of my tank to sit about 1/4" above the top of the stand. Should i use styrofoam and let gravity do its job? Is it that simple?

I dont have pics of the stand painted with the 3/4" ply ontop, however these will give you an idea of what the stand looks like.

Clamp a straight edge to the stand parallel to the edge with the high spot. Use a router with a flush cutting bit to even it out.

i was thinkin 2 options.
1: use a planar to try and plane the hump out of the top
2: remove the 3/4" plywood and replace it with a 1/2" piece, hopefully the half inch would form a bit better.

You said the 3/4 inch piece is removable, I'd score it while it's attached and then remove it and cut the line.

Using a flush cutting router bit is probably the best way, but I'm not sure it would span and reach your framing in the middle. Plus you may not have a router. I'd just mark the 3/4 where you want it to be and re-cut it and reattach it.

what do you mean by score it? i dont have a router either.

so how bout i take the 3/4" off, shim the 4 corners (top of 2x4's) as necessary. Check with the level (1 end on each corner) and screw the plywood back down through the shims into the 2x4's.

OK, just to clarify. You said that they stand itself was level. It is just the plywood that is off, correct? If so, just remove the plywood and re-cut.

Stryofoam will get you no where.

I think he meant to take that piece of ply off the stand and cut the over hanging part off....

So you are saying that the stand (2x4s) is out of square? If you remove the plywood to cut it, there shouldn't be any screws to cut.
