Is there any way it is something else? That doesn't sound like a fish that her hsband would put in the tank. Gymnothorax dovii possibly?
How long has it been in there? If it's an adult then I second the idea of Gymnothorax tile.

It's been in there for at least 6 months and as long as a year. The fish he would usually buy are more expensive and harder to find.
