The big redfin flagtail had to come out of the 25K cyprinid exhibit because it showed impartiality to sturgeon slime. It is now in the 1800 gal. Visuals later.

Here is Jordan's smaller redfin beauty ~7" donated recently and the lineatus ~12" from Ray Chan in the same 1800 gal:

More pics from 1800 gal, lineatus and the big red fin flagtail (its tail was badly damaged by a tig tank mate when it was 5", almost all of it fell off afterwards and the new one that grew in its place has never been as spectacular as the original should have been, my feeling is, anyway...):

However, lineatus is a nasty tank mate and has earned a one way ticket back into one of the 240 gal. This is what it had done to one of the 14" snail bullhead tank mates over a couple of months period by supposedly sucking on one spot over and over and over again, it was unsettling, I thought maybe it was a disease and I couldn't catch the culprit... until I finally saw who had been doing it - lineatus!

It started out as a small dot and kept growing and growing into this crater. In general, I find Ictaluridae to be rather strange in this regard - bullheads and channels let tank mates such as Labeo, pacu, and now striped prochilod suck on them and bite them as they please...)

Prochilodus lineatus returns from a year long exile in a 240 gal to the 1800 gal. It's been alright for 2 months so far.

Sadly, the lineatus didn't last the second time around in this 1800 gal. It passed. I suppose could be from the pathogen that had killed a lot of fish in this 26K gal system over the past 4 years, compounded by too small water changes of 100% in 20-30 days, instead of in a week or less.

Final size 12", ~6 years old.

Yeah I had a yellow fin for a while and it topped out at 7", I don't think they get as big as their red counterparts.
I had a group of yellow and red flagtails. The yellows were around 8-10” and the reds were all 14-16+

When people buy the yellow flagtails they are mostly silver and white but soon the dorsal and anal fins get an orange colouration and the tail stays completely yellow for its whole life. They will max out under a foot long 9-11”. With the reds being much larger and all red fins

Out of the blue we lost our bigger redfin flagtail Prochilodus, 8 years old, 16in/40cm, sudden death, unknown cause, how long do they live? It fed fine till the end and wasn't attacked, no obvious illness either.
