I have a 55g and I want a semi-large cichlid but I also want a 10gish size refrugium type of thing but I want it out of plastic so I can put holes in it with my little 400gph power head in it. I would.like easy-to-grow live plants with shrimp in it. Would this work?

I don't see why it wouldn't, I have often thought about something like a 125 with a custom built acrylic "box" along the back top of it. I would have screens on both ends and flow through from one end to the other. I think it'd be cool to be able to see the plants and some shrimp or something in it...

The fish in the tank would love the treat of baby shrimp that get out too :)

Im just curious here, but why would you want to take up valuable space in your 55 gallon by putting another tank inside of it, rather than just running a 10 gallon tank for your shrimp and such.
Not trying to bash your idea, im just curious.
