Got a bit of snow yesterday, so today was clean-up day. After snow was cleared, 2 of my kiddies and I decided to have some fun time. Started off sledding then we hit our iced over pond. Kiddies started off building snow forts and I decided we needed a campfire in the middle of the pond.

It was fun, and it was just a gorgeous winter day! So, we had to take advantage of it.

Looks like round 2 of snow is coming tomorrow. Its predicted to be a couple of foot in my area. Already got the day off tomorrow. With so much snow predicted, I'm going to attempt to use the snow blower to build a massive igloo. As long as I don't lose power, I'll be a happy camper.

I'm Where I'm At
I didn't realize it was safe to start a fire in the middle of a frozen pond

it doesn't melt the ice beneath it?

few weeks ago I took my kids up toward big bear lake to play in snow. been almost 10 years since I've gone up there.

I was reminded quickly that you need proper snow attire to enjoy the snow, because snow is made from water. and it is freezing to the touch. and you can't just trample around and roll around in snow with just any kind of clothing material. next time i'm making sure i'm properly prepared

It does eventually.....then you have a large hole until it refreezes.
Yep, its safe. The ice on my pond is at least 6" thick right now, probably thick enough to hold the weight of a small car.

so even with the hole, your weight around it won't break the ice?

i'm not familiar with all the physical limitations involving frozen water because I live in socal

Nah, ice melting by fire is not the same as say smashing it with a hammer, whereby you can cause a fracture to radiate out weakening the surrounding proximity. Think about people ice fishing. They bore large holes through the ice with an auger then stand over it to fish
