It's a good starting point, but there are definitely more things you can look at to generate an id.

I'm thinking I'll try and throw together a full write up with pics to demonstrate. I believe some of the old links and pictures in the stickies no longer work.
I look forward to it. In my location as long as I WC then it's easy to depict. Only 4 local species to me and 5 total in North America.

This is the kind of thing this website needs right now. I support and endorse this action. You've been on my radar (in a good way) for a while, and this would be GREATLY appreciated.

Great to hear. I kinda started over the weekend but I changed my mind on format so it’s still a work in progress.

Quick question for you though. I was going to try and use mainly pictures from the existing stickies. If I need additional ones from the web though, provided I state the picture is not mine and I reference the source is that fine?

Yeah just give credit where credit is due. When I do a writeup, I try to farm ojcs from MFK and then give credit to the member in question. Failing that, I check for "share alike" pictures on Wikimedia Commons. Failing that, I scour Google and try to give credit where it's due. Normally members here are more than happy to help with pictures in hopes that they'll be featured in a sticky.

For the sake of continuity, if you used the format I've instituted elsewhere on the forum for ID and care threads, it would be appreciated. I realize that since you're not staff, some stuff such as inserting hyperlinks and the like you won't be able to do. Don't worry about that, I've got your back. I'm going to be putting out a few new guides in this format soon as well. If you need it, I can provide you with blank forum coding to make your life easier.

That would be a florida gar. Colour may change as it continues to grow.

In the past there have been juvenile gars that display red or gold pigment and changes to standard colouration with growth.
