I talked to a few phd's about it a while back......while garlic does have some mild antihelminitic properties the consensus seemed to be that there is not enough active ingredient to be of any use in an aquarium...to be useful you would have to use so much that there would be no room for any fish in the tank .
so...imo....myth.
its really unproven even in human consumption but the fact remains the fish love the smell or the taste cant hurt any to use it..

that would make sense, because your supposed to eat stuff with garlic in it when your sick. I will have to experiment with that.
