The bigger the better! They can get 24 inches. I had an common( Osphronemus gourami) 18 inches in that same tank. She seemed comfortable but I couldn't keep up with water changes. Ate and **** like a horse! Lol

They are big , bulky, messy fish, you would need around 250g per fish if you keep them for life. I have two in my 500g, if they squabble you want that extra space for them to move to different area's of the tank.

These gouramis look great :)
Here is a pic of my group. I feel lucky they get along pretty well. I know one day I'll only end up with one or two. Thought about selling a few but just bring myself to it!View attachment 1227043
What's the eventual plan for these guys? They look awesome

The closest thing I have to these is a paradise fish :D:D

Growing them up to keep the best quality ones. I have two for sure I plan on keeping. Hopefully as they grow I will have the tank space to hold them. Contemplating selling one or two real soon

I feel ashamed for posting this as this was a site I loved and used all the time and I've been inactive for so long now but I've never had bad advise from here so here it goes....

My current young GG has had something happen to him and his mouth has been stuck open for a week now, I'm guessing he's had a 'bump', he's not eating and hiding behind the air stone in the corner, I expected him to get back as others I've had have 'bumped' and recovered in a day or two but he's not eating and I'm starting ti get worried now:

Tank: 250 USG
Filter: Ehiem pro3 thermo
Second heater: thermo cut off in tank, hardly ever comes on but a back up
Tank mates: 6 silver adult dollars, of various genus

Parameters are all fine

Water changes are not regular but I do test the water each week, and I do changes before they are needed, before someone shouts at me, if you don't think I know what I'm doing you should see my pet sturgeon ;-)

Any ideas as I think a may be in sepcialist vet terrority?

Nothing to lose. Get a hold of him and see if you can unlock the jaw. Try moving it up and down

Is this based on experience?

You're probably thinking it's not the best advice you've ever been given but if my RTGG had a similar ailment i'm sure i'd do something similar, unless u know any cheap marine vets!
