You definitely need a secure lid with any snakehead. Not sure how they could even figure out a way to escape through the gaps of the inflow tube!
I learnt the hard way. Lost 3 snakeheads found them dry on the floor always a few feet away from the tank. Felt bad for not looking into closing those gaps.

Lucky you. Found him while still alive.

I couldn't agree more, only thing I know that escapes even more than a channa is a malawi crab, those managed to escape from the same inflow tube gap... Except they were twice the size of that gap! xD
